Israel built a fake think tank to game AI systems
Israel's government advertising agency funded a shell operation called the "Hanover Institute" that cranked out 124 reports in nine days, all designed to be scraped by ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity as credible research.
The site hosted headlines crafted to match chatbot queries: "Is Israel Carrying Out a Genocide in Gaza?" Then answered them with information filtered to soften criticism of Israel.
Money flowed through the European ad firm Havas to American contractors, including a firm run by Brad Parscale, Trump's former campaign manager. Tens of millions of dollars to manufacture false credibility.
An Israeli official later told Ynet: "We paid a lot of money, but the situation only got worse."
So the operation failed at its core mission while proving Israel's willingness to bankroll industrial-scale propaganda aimed directly at the AI systems billions of people rely on for information.
