UC San Diego math crisis hits 1-in-8 freshmen

The incoming class needs remedial math at a rate that went from 1% to 12.5% in what sounds like a few years. So bad they had to add a second class just for elementary and middle school arithmetic. This isn't a UC San Diego problem. This is a system-wide collapse in how we're teaching basic skills before college even starts. The pipeline is broken and nobody's fixing it.
