NYT asks torturers' permission first

This is what institutional rot looks like. They found photo evidence of torture, war crime documented, and their instinct was to call up the Israeli military for comment before publishing. Give the torturers first word, let them shape the narrative, sanitize it with their statement. That's not journalism. That's stenography with a PR department involved. The photo shows a stripped and bound detainee. Rights groups called it a war crime. But sure, let's make sure the IDF gets their talking points in first.

The Israeli military confirmed the authenticity of a photo of a stripped and bound detainee that circulated online after it was reposted by a Palestinian activist, who wrote that an Israeli soldier first shared it. Rights groups said it depicted a war crime. https://trib.al/0IMeHsR
