The Strategic Petroleum Reserve has never stored heavy crude because it wrecks the salt caverns used for storage. Trump's pitch to fill it with Venezuelan oil ignores basic geology and the fact that Venezuela's crude is some of the heaviest in the world. This is either incompetence or theater. Probably both.
