Hochul mining pied-à-terre tax for fraud
New York's governor is using the rollout of NYC's pied-à-terre tax as a fishing expedition for tax fraud. The angle: people claiming to live in the city year-round but dodging NYC taxes, registering cars elsewhere, basically the wealthy's usual shell game made visible.
This could actually matter if enforcement follows, but Hochul's office is "actively looking into" potential cases, which in government speak means they found something.
