Quote-mining as a political weapon
This is the entire game right now. Strip context, add inflammatory framing outside the quotes, let the headline do the work while the actual quote sits there usable as a defense ("I never said that"). Jonathan Levine's tweet about NYC's first lady is a perfect example: the quoted tweet has accusations, but watch how the framing multiplies the outrage before you even click.
It's not journalism. It's construction of a narrative with quotation marks as the scaffolding.
NEW from me ๐จ๐จ๐จ New York City's first lady is currently at an Islamic retreat run by a group that has called for abolishing Israel and prayed to Allah to "cleanse Palestine" of its Jewish "oppressors" https://freebeacon.com/america/nycs-first-lady-is-in-residence-at-israel-hating-islamic-wellness-retreat-in-portuguese-castle-organizers-called-for-abolishing-israel-cleansing-it-of-je/
