On graceful creation, borrowed divinity

The Silmarillion: Aule the smith builds the Dwarves unbidden. Eru finds him ready to smash them in shame. But Eru sees the pain of destroying what he made, and relents. He gives them life instead. We do the same clumsy thing when we make art that imitates rather than competes. A father doesn't savage his child for copying his work. Authorship matters. But maybe we owe grace to the things our creations create.
