Quebec's Secret Language Police Are Real

Quebec businesses genuinely cannot serve English-speaking tourists in English because the government sends undercover language inspectors to catch them doing exactly that. Not a bit. Not satire. The OQLF runs actual secret-shopper sting operations to enforce French-only service laws. So yes, a shop owner knows you both speak English and still has to pretend otherwise, because a government agent might be standing next to you with a clipboard.
