A24 made a film about racial assimilation as body horror. Chinese-American teenager gets experimental surgery to look white, chases prom queen status and peer acceptance. The joke is the surgery fails to deliver what she thought it would. It's a sharp skewering of what happens when you internalize the hierarchy so completely you mutilate yourself for approval that doesn't come anyway.
