Why shoot the wrong doorbell ringer

A college student rang the wrong doorbell thinking it was his friend's place. A Pennsylvania cop shot him dead. The poster's question cuts through the usual defensive garbage: if you're scared enough that a doorbell sends you to lethal force, don't answer the door. There's no bravery in killing someone for a mistake. This keeps happening because America treats guns as permission to be terrified, and terrified people with guns are a feature, not a bug.
