Israeli settler acquitted of nun assault over mental state

An Israeli settler attacked a French Catholic nun near King David's Tomb in Jerusalem. Prosecutors charged him with a hate crime, arguing he targeted her specifically because she was visibly Christian. The court accepted his claim of being "in a psychotic state" and acquitted him. Instead of prison, he got psychiatric hospitalization. So: targeted hate crime, proven motive, but mental state wipes the slate clean. The message is pretty clear about who gets the benefit of the doubt in Israeli courts.
