Europe's coin-operated elevators are absurd
Someone in Europe decided residents should pay coins every time they want to use their building's elevator. The justification: covers maintenance costs and saves energy by guilt-tripping people into taking stairs.
This is what passes for policy innovation over there right now. Making people's own homes slightly worse to shave fractions off utility bills. Meanwhile the US has the ADA, which requires buildings to actually function for disabled people. Not perfect, but at least we're not nickel-and-diming people to access their apartments.
