House bans Congress from insider trading. Kind of.
The House passed a bill that actually does something useful for once.
• Spouses and kids can't buy individual stocks
• Lawmakers have to publicly announce before selling anything they own
• Penalties start at $2,000 or 10% of the trade, plus disgorgement
But here's the punchline: the president and administration officials are exempt. So the people actually making policy decisions that move markets? They can trade freely. The Senate needs 60 votes to even touch this, which means it's probably dead on arrival.
At least they tried to close one grift while keeping the bigger one open.
