LA mansion's utility bill hits $8,506 a month
Spencer Pratt posted his neighbor's LADWP bill. The number is absurd: over 4x an average American mortgage, just for water and power to a 10k+ sq ft house running nonstop AC with pool and hot tub heating. Water consumption sitting at 65,000 gallons a month.
The outrage from Pratt frames it as LADWP incompetence: they drained reservoirs through two fire seasons, let the city burn, burst water mains daily, forgot to shut off power during wildfires. Fair critiques on infrastructure.
But the actual story here is wealth. One house draining that much water during a drought while LA burns. The blame game at LADWP is theater. The real issue is that someone can use enough resources for dozens of families without consequence.
One of my neighbor's latest bill from LADWP. $8,506. That's more than 4X the average American's mortgage payment. Just for waste, water, and electricity. What do you get for that money? They drain your reservoirs for 2 straight fire seasons and let your town burn down. Oh, and then their water mains burst every day and flood your streets. Oh, and they forget to shut off the power during a wildfire and cause more spot fires around your neighborhood. Don't let communists run your city, folks.
