Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich was fat guy 9/11
The commodification of every damn thing, even fast food. Some MBA who's never actually made a sandwich decided the spicy chicken wasn't about the sandwich anymore, it was about quarterly earnings. That's the shift. Everything that was good gets drained of character, optimized to death, made cheaper to produce, and sold at the same price with a smaller margin for the company's quarterly call.
This isn't about one menu item. It's about the philosophy that's metastasized through every industry: strip away the craft, hollow out the product, and call it innovation.
Wendy's and Jersey Mike's have gotten worse โ and @stavvybaby knows why: "It's getting s***tier because some d***head who's never f***ing spread mayo in his life decided, 'Oh no, actually, instead of a sandwich, this is now a commodity.'"
