Germany's CDU is tightening citizenship rules, ending dual citizenship, ramping up language requirements, demanding financial independence, and forcing explicit antisemitism rejection. It's framed as stopping the AfD. What it actually does is let mainstream conservatives adopt far-right policy aesthetics and call it "reasonable". The AfD gets to sit back and watch liberal democrats do the normalizing work for them. That's how this works. You don't defeat the far-right by copying its homework.
