Huckabee's math on Israel's wartime economy doesn't add up

Mike Huckabee, now US Ambassador to Israel, is marveling that Israel pulled off 4% GDP growth while fighting on seven fronts and its stock market is up 100% since October 7th. He frames this as impossible, miraculous even. Except his framing obscures what's actually driving those numbers. Wartime spending is stimulus. Stock markets in conflict zones often spike on defense spending, reconstruction contracts, and capital reallocation. This isn't a mystery, it's basic economics. Huckabee either doesn't understand that or is deliberately selling a narrative that Israel's military operations are thriving while everyone else struggles with the weight of war. He's wrong about what "shouldn't happen." This stuff happens all the time. What matters is what those numbers hide: actual casualties, displacement, destroyed infrastructure, and a population under constant siege. The stock market doesn't measure human cost.
