Issue 25 Aug 17 – Aug 23, 2026
Week of Aug 17
Trump has no answer on housing, farmers, or the economy, and keeps antagonizing allies while his base bleeds away. The left keeps winning primaries, Israel keeps striking allies and children, and food safety collapses recall by recall.
Trump's economy has no plan and no floor. He dismissed the housing crisis as beneath his attention as housing unaffordability drives voter fury both parties ignore. He chose Argentine beef over US ranchers while 77 cattle producers close daily and Tyson shutters beef plants. Stephen Miller invented an inflation record, Bessent and Rollins blamed Biden for debt and beef prices, and China openly mocked the $40 trillion debt. Trump is collapsing in red states.
Israel keeps hitting allies, children, and marked convoys. It struck a Turkish NATO ally's military, a major escalation, and admitted firing on a 5-year-old's car only after its denial fell apart. The IDF can spot settlers by their sideburns but not a marked WCK vehicle. One journalist [called documented Gaza evidence "propaganda" on air](/65nq wrong, use)[](/65e2), and an Israeli politician called to flood social media with fake news.
The left keeps winning; Democratic leadership keeps fumbling. The first DSA member won a statewide primary, in Florida, and El-Sayed dismantled Watters live. Meanwhile Democratic PACs raised $390M and spent $249M on fundraising itself, Jeffries tagged the wrong Aisha, and the party needs leadership turnover.
Food safety is collapsing recall by recall. Glass in frozen fruit bars, salmonella granola, Listeria soup kits, and blueberries in the FDA's deadliest category, while the FDA waited a month to inspect a farm that sickened 10,000.
Trump's circus runs on schedule. He screamed at a female reporter, named a federal law after himself, attacked Canada over French, and quit NATO to punish Europe for refusing his Iran war. Aides wrote him devotion letters and slept in locker rooms for proximity.
