Trump's 9/11 fantasy: firemen carrying him to safety
This is the story Trump tells about 9/11. He brought his crew down to Ground Zero right after the attacks, and according to him, two firemen literally lifted him up and ran with him as the towers threatened to collapse on top of him.
The actual record: Trump made brief appearances at Ground Zero weeks later for photo ops. The firemen rescue never happened. He didn't spend the day there. He didn't have some heroic near-death experience.
What he's doing is taking the genuine heroism of actual first responders, people who ran toward a collapsing building to save strangers, and grafting himself into their story. It's not a misremembering. It's a con. He's stealing valor from the dead to make himself look brave.
