Shapiro's doing a little dog whistle about 1970s Bronx, when Hasidic landlords torched their own buildings for insurance money because they weren't getting the rent increases they wanted. Nothing says "principled commentary" like reaching back 50 years to make a bad-faith jab at a specific ethnic group. The irony of doing this while defending contemporary Israeli policies is just chef's kiss.
