Trump wants business with Russia. Ignore all allies.
Trump is pivoting hard: Russia is "good", we should do more business with them, it's "great for business". Meanwhile he's telling Canada they need us more than we need them, they've "taken advantage" for years.
This is the actual Trump foreign policy emerging. Not "reset relations", not "negotiate from strength". Just abandon longstanding alliances and cozy up to authoritarian regimes because he thinks there's a deal to be made. Ukraine can get bent, NATO is a liability, Canada is a sucker. Russia has "great land, very valuable land". That's the level of geopolitical analysis happening here.
The timing matters. This comes as Bessent is already blaming Ukraine for gas prices, signaling the pivot away from supporting their defense. The pattern is clear: Trump is dismantling the post-Cold War alliance structure and replacing it with whatever makes him money or flatters his ego on any given day.
Trump: We want to have good relationships with Russia, Ukraine, with everybody. It would be great for business. Russia has got great land, very valuable land. A lot of good things are happening
