Right-wing provocateur's rally turns into street battle in Pamplona

Vito Quiles (actual name Vito Zoppellari Quiles), a 24-year-old online agitator Spain's press describes as a propagandist despite his "journalist" claim, held a 10-minute rally in Pamplona to 50-100 supporters under heavy police guard, declaring Navarra is "more Spanish than ever." Hundreds of leftist and Basque nationalist counter-protesters showed up instead. Some threw stones and bottles, torched trash containers, built barricades. Police deployed charges and foam projectiles, arrested three people (including a 16-year-old), and said four officers got light injuries. This is Quiles' opening stop for a tour timed to the November 29 elections. The playbook is identical everywhere: tiny crowd of supporters, massive counter-protest, spectacle of conflict that makes him look significant. It works.
