The "legal tax evasion" comment is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Most people genuinely believe that earning one more dollar can push ALL your income into a higher bracket and leave you with less money. That's not how marginal rates work. Never has been. And yet here we are, letting these people vote on tax policy.
