Canada's tax cut plays the productivity card
Canada just cut its marginal effective tax rate on new business investment from 13% to 6.4%. They're calling it the Productivity Mega Deduction and claiming it's now the lowest rate of any major economy.
The play is obvious: make Canada look like a business haven to poach investment from the US while Trump's tariff chaos makes American operations look risky. Whether it actually works depends on whether companies believe in Canada's stability relative to whatever happens next in Washington.
Timing matters. This drops right as global capital is figuring out where to go when the world's largest economy is threatening trade wars.
