Trump Cuts Kids' Shelter Funds to Punish the Pope
Trump just yanked $11 million from Catholic Charities in Miami, ending a 60-year partnership that housed unaccompanied migrant children. The program has been described as a "federally funded foster care system." It's gone in three months.
"The U.S. government has abruptly decided to end more than 60 years of relationship with Catholic Charities in the Archdiocese of Miami," said Archbishop Thomas Wenski. "Our track record in serving this vulnerable population is unmatched."
Experts are clear on what happens to the kids now:
• "It's incredibly psychologically harmful to be moved"
• "Moving repeatedly creates bonding issues and destroys the sense of both self and community"
• "They don't know who they are and where they will be"
The timing is not a coincidence. Pope Leo criticized Trump's Iran War. Trump retaliated by gutting funding for a children's shelter program run by the Pope's church. That's the whole story. The administration won't admit it but they don't need to. This is pure vindictive punishment, and the ones paying for it are kids who entered this country alone.
