Tim Scott's insane non-answer about El-Sayed's name
Raju asks the obvious question: why does Scott's campaign use Siraj El-Sayed's full name in attack ads if not to signal "he's Muslim"?
Scott's response: I go by Timothy Eugene, people call me that all the time.
That's not an answer. That's a complete non-sequitur. Scott is pretending the two situations are identical when they're absolutely not. Nobody is running attack ads against him that pointedly use "Timothy Eugene Scott" to trigger religious alarm bells. The entire point of using El-Sayed's full name in opposition messaging is exactly what Raju is asking about, and Scott just... dodged it with nonsense.
This is how dog-whistle politics works when the whistle gets exposed on live TV.
