Cruz and Paul's insane legislative hostage standoff
Paul wants to pass a bill funding a Boys and Girls Club expansion in Paducah. Cruz blocks it unless Paul also passes Cruz's "spy fridge bill" that requires labels on internet-connected devices.
Paul calls this a "false equivalency" - tying local community funding to nationwide surveillance regulations with fines. Cruz fires back that Paul is "the only libertarian on Planet Earth fighting to have more surveillance" and accuses him of blocking popular bills.
Then Cruz whips out the AM radio mandate angle, claiming Democrats "want to silence conservative speech." Paul basically asks Cruz to justify why he hates the Boys and Girls Club if this is really about principle.
Neither bill passed. Congress is broken and they're just theater-blocking each other over wedge issues.
Two GOP senators weaponized unrelated bills as leverage, proving Congress uses local projects as hostages in larger ideological wars.
