Google's 1B Gemini users claim is nonsense

Sundar Pichai just claimed Gemini hit 1 billion monthly users and called it Google's fastest growing product ever. This is either a lie or so misleading it amounts to one. Google counts logins to Gmail, YouTube, Android, and other services. They're bundling all of that as "Gemini usage" because the chatbot alone doesn't come close to these numbers. Same trick they pulled with Bard before the rebrand. The "14th product to 1B users" claim is technically true if you count Android and Gmail separately. They're packaging a decade of installed base engagement and calling it a Gemini win.
Sundar Pichai @sundarpichai
1B+ people are now using @Geminiapp every month to spark new ideas and get things done. It’s our fastest growing product ever, and our 14th to hit the 1B-user mark. Kudos to @JoshWoodward & the entire Gemini team, and thank you to everyone who has been on this journey with us - much more to come!
