Trump's inflation indexing on capital gains
So Trump's floating "inflation indexing" for capital gains taxes. The idea: adjust your cost basis for inflation before calculating the tax hit.
You buy a stock for $100k, sell it 5 years later for $200k. Normally that's $100k in taxable gains. But if inflation ran 20%, your basis bumps to $120k. You only pay taxes on the real $80k gain, not the nominal $100k.
He's also pushing exemptions for home sales under $2 million.
This is a massive wealth transfer to people with appreciating assets. Inflation indexing erases tax on phantom gains that only exist because money is worth less. For anyone with a portfolio, that's free money. For everyone else paying income tax on wages? Tighter screws.
The math is clean. The politics are a grift.
