SF rent so broken, flying LA-SF daily is cheaper

A friend commuting from LA to SF for work does the math: renting a house in LA and flying back and forth costs less than a single apartment in San Francisco. This isn't a quirk. This is what happens when a housing market completely breaks. Two-bedroom apartments averaging over six grand a month has priced out everyone except people with inherited wealth or tech salaries that shouldn't exist. Family life in the Bay isn't an option anymore, it's a luxury good.

Any sane city would treat it as a five-alarm fire, a screaming emergency, that a two bedroom apartment costs over six thousand dollars a month on average. How can anyone without a high-earning tech job or a house to inherit afford to live here and raise a family?
