Seven years ago Google promised me their AI would cut energy use without touching production. Efficiency improvements would solve everything, they said. "Just wait!" I told them that's nonsense. In growth capitalism, you don't bank savings. You reinvest them to expand. Efficiency gains become cover for more extraction. They didn't listen. Energy use went up anyway. It always does.
