California senators demand SAT/ACT return to UC
Three state senators are pushing the University of California Board of Regents to immediately reinstate standardized testing, arguing that students without SAT/ACT scores are showing up unprepared for degree-level work.
The letter from Senators Ochoa Bogh, Choi, and Roger Niello: "students entering the University of California are not prepared for the rigorous coursework that is required to complete their degrees... we call upon the Board of Regents to move quickly towards reinstatement without delay"
This is UC's reckoning with test-optional admissions. California removed the requirement claiming it leveled the field. Turns out that narrative crumbles the second freshman grades actually matter.
