Canada and EU form strategic alliance, sidelining Trump
Prime Minister Mark Carney is in talks with the European Union on an "associate member" status that would deepen trade with a $21 trillion market while keeping Canada independent. The EU actually proposed this unprecedented move, which is getting ironed out now.
The deal includes free movement for Canadian goods, services, and workers in energy, AI, and defense. Joint projects on the table: underwater cables, data centers, cloud storage, and direct energy pipelines to Europe.
Carney is in France and the UK this week, speaking to the European Parliament and von der Leyen at the State of the European Union. He's been building relationships with Macron and other EU leadership.
This happens as Trump wages trade war and threatens Canada. The result: the world is restructuring alliances away from the US, leaving America isolated while its neighbors build something else entirely.
