Haymarket Books and the ISO's annual "socialism" conference is a masterclass in how to neuter the left from inside. They signed an open letter attacking Iran solidarity as "hollow anti-imperialism" while hosting panels that sound ripped from State Department talking points: CIA Ukraine proxy defenders, NED-funded anti-China academics, regime change grifters across Russia, Venezuela, Iran, Syria. The pattern is grotesque. These are people who push US foreign policy objectives while calling it socialism. Panels on "Russian neofascism" that cheerlead proxy wars. Material naming entire countries as imperialist while defending American military adventures. The Grayzone exposed this in 2019: NED-funded academics setting the left's China policy. Nothing changed. They just keep cycling the same regime-change academics through different conferences. If this is what the American left looks like when it gets institutional power, the right should be terrified. Actually terrified. Instead they're watching a movement that spent decades building structure get colonized by people who'll die defending US foreign policy.
