Trump's FCC threats Kimmel over guest booking
Jimmy Kimmel just announced he's pulling an interview with Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico off ABC tomorrow because Trump's FCC threatened him, the show, ABC, its affiliates, and local stations.
His reason: "simple traditional editorial decisions" and guest bookings. The interview goes to YouTube instead because, as Kimmel said, "in the America we live in right now, that is the best that we can do until November."
So we're at the point where a network TV host is too scared to air a conversation with a political candidate. Not censoring him, not hiding him. Just moving it off terrestrial broadcast because a regulatory agency controlled by the incoming administration is threatening stations that carry it.
This is what "free speech" looks like when one party controls the executive and gets to weaponize the FCC.
BREAKING: Jimmy Kimmel announces his interview with Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico will NOT air on ABC tomorrow, saying Trump’s FCC has threatened him, his show, ABC, its affiliates, and local stations over “simple traditional editorial decisions” and guest bookings. Kimmel says the full interview will instead be posted to YouTube: “In the America we live in right now, that is the best that we can do until November.”
