Hilton: Ban apartments in suburbs, build elsewhere

Steve Hilton wants to prohibit new apartment complexes in suburban neighborhoods and force construction onto undeveloped land instead. His pitch: avoids local opposition, lets more housing get built. This is just NIMBYism with a policy wrapper. The issue isn't WHERE you build, it's that suburbs are zoned to death and people block density everywhere. Redirecting apartments to "undeveloped land" doesn't solve exclusionary zoning, it just pushes the problem somewhere else while wealthy suburbs stay single-family fortresses. Meanwhile, in the same segment, Hilton grilled Xavier Becerra on taking money from OpenAI and Anthropic while overseeing AI regulation. Becerra dodged. The hypocrisy of complaining about industry capture while pushing land-use policies that entrench property wealth is pretty thick.

In a segment about AI safety, Steve Hilton twice asked Xavier Becerra, “How much money have you taken from OpenAI and Anthropic?” and questioned regulating AI while taking industry money. Becerra did not answer directly, instead citing his record of corporate lawsuits.
