GM killed the dipstick. Now you pay for the sensor.
2027 Silverado and Sierra V8s won't have a physical oil dipstick anymore. You get a digital gauge instead. Start the engine, wait for the computer, hope it's calibrated right.
A YouTube mechanic already tested this on another GM truck. Drained a huge amount of oil. The gauge didn't move. The sensor fails and you're at the dealer paying hundreds to replace what used to be a $10 part you could check yourself in your driveway.
This is the entire playbook now. Take something that worked for a hundred years. Make it digital. Make it harder to fix yourself. Squeeze more money every cycle. Average truck is over $55,000 because dealers won't stock base models. Finance it for 100 months and call it affordable. Then lock out basic maintenance.
CD sales jumped 58% this year because people got tired of not owning their music. You're going to see that backlash spread to everything the auto industry is doing.
