Hunting costs 4x more for your kid than your dad
Washington state's licensing structure is a textbook wealth transfer. Grandpa pays $22.63 plus $0.50/lb to put venison in the freezer. Your son pays $91.65 plus $2.03/lb for the exact same animal.
That's not conservation pricing, that's a generational tax on people who can least afford it. Meanwhile the premise that hunting saves money against grocery store prices collapses immediately when you factor in the actual cost of entry.
States are pricing younger people out of outdoor skills that used to be accessible. And calling it a license fee doesn't change what it is.
My friend just pitched "we should learn to hunt to save money" and then got upset with me when I started having AI run the numbers, which came out extremely unfavorably for this idea. Was annoyed at me for not immediately having a "can do" attitude about it. Sorry bro, theres no room for error in this economy, I can't just blindly invest $4000 into something that actually costs more than just buying meat at the store immediately and in the long run.
