Japan Shorting Oil to Save the Yen. Sure.

Japan wants to tap its $1.4 trillion in foreign exchange reserves and "build short positions in the oil futures market by selling futures contracts to push down prices." This is a real thing a real government is actually considering doing.

Japan is so desperate to prop up the yen that it's floating the idea of using sovereign reserves to manipulate global oil futures, which is the kind of move that sounds insane until it works or catastrophically doesn't.
