The Iran war flipped from ceasefire theater to Trump unilaterally blockading Hormuz, with allies openly organizing against him. Iranian Jews in the rubble of their bombed synagogue demolished the war's justification, and Spain became Europe's loudest defector.
The ceasefire was theater, then Trump seized Hormuz himself. After a two-week ceasefire and Iran treating it as a victory, missiles hit Tel Aviv within hours and Israel bombed Lebanon anyway. Then Trump ordered a full naval blockade of the Strait he'd threatened Iran over closing, improvising policy in real time. Iran told US destroyers to turn back or get shot and closed the Strait over Lebanon.
Allies aren't just refusing now, they're organizing against him. UK and France moved to counter the blockade, Spain vetoed NATO involvement, and Trump floated pulling out of NATO entirely. Spain went furthest: reopening its Tehran embassy, calling for Netanyahu's arrest, and getting anointed by Beijing over Brussels. Qatar expelled US forces, the first Gulf state to do so.
Iranian Jews in the rubble ended the moral case. Israel bombed a synagogue on Passover, and its own Jewish community leader, standing in the wreckage, called Israel a terrorist state. Netanyahu, who sabotaged the ceasefire talks by calling Vance, is still running the same "six months from a nuke" script from 1992.
The costs kept stacking. The US burned $720M in drones, a tanker limped into England full of shrapnel, and Iran showed off the $1.1B radar it wrecked in Qatar. Turkey threatened to attack Israel outright.
Home front rot. Vance leaked his own war-room heroics to the NYT and hit most unpopular VP in history, while the Trump crypto project cashed out $100M and froze investors.
