NJ Congressman vanishes for 75 days, tells nobody why
Tom Kean Jr., 57-year-old Republican congressman, last voted March 5. Still missing from public life. Staff won't explain. Father says it's "serious" but won't say what it is. Running for reelection anyway.
His chief of staff actually said, "There's no cameras where Tom is." Not "he's resting," not "private medical matter." Just. No cameras.
Meanwhile he's still on the ballot and no GOP primary challenger exists, so voters are electing a ghost while his family plays cryptic games with his health.
This is the state of American governance: a guy can vanish for two and a half months, his staff can be evasive as hell, and nobody has to actually tell constituents what's happening.
