TRUMP’S NEW PRESS SECRETARY LIVED IN BEIJING Katie Zacharia’s first job after graduating was to work in Beijing, as an outside counsel (lawyer) for the World Bank Group. The 42-year-old lived in Beijing for three years, working for a US law firm, and learned to get by in Mandarin Chinese. From this week, the world will start to see her in her new role, as press secretary for Donald Trump, taking the role formerly held by Karoline Leavitt, who has had a second child. But Zacharia also knows modern media – her most recent job was senior communications adviser to Truth Social, the Twitter clone owned by Trump Media & Technology Group. . KNOWING THE REAL CHINA The mix of influences is interesting—while fiercely loyal to the US Republicans, her experience in China means that she will know what the country is really like, as opposed to the carefully constructed “giant dystopian gulag of a billion prisoners” narrative constructed by the western mainstream media. The Chinese have given up waiting for the media to deliver a truthful picture, instead hoping that visitors will do the trick - so it will be encouraging that the list of people who have been to China including individuals at the top of the US ladder – including a woman with the ear of the President.
