Deutsche Bank created an "Oasis" index that measures the price of 5 beers and 2 packs of cigarettes across countries. It's their crude but honest take on what people actually spend money on, stripped of all the economist theater about "baskets of goods." Way more useful than CPI for understanding whether workers can still afford a drink and a smoke.
