Trump consolidates federal government into single website
Trump signed an executive order folding every federal agency into America.gov, a single "AI-powered front door" for the entire US government.
The core idea is sound: stop making people navigate 47 different agency websites to renew a passport or check a benefit. That part actually sucks and always has.
But let's be real about what's happening. This is less about government efficiency and more about creating a centralized surveillance and control infrastructure. An "AI-powered" government search engine is a surveillance tool wrapped in the language of convenience. The Trump administration has made clear it wants to consolidate power, monitor dissent, and weaponize federal agencies. Consolidating the entire government's front door into one place under an AI system they control? That's not modernization, that's consolidation of power.
The fact that it's framed as bringing government "into the 21st century" is comedy. The real reason every agency has its own website is because Congress designed it that way for transparency and access. Flattening that into a single portal controlled by the executive branch is the opposite of democratic government.
